Reimagining Care and Safety at Festivals
In 2018, Veline Mojarro, CEO of SHIFT was called into the festival space to design and lead a program to better support the safety of patrons. This positioned SHIFT at the forefront of community care efforts rooted in transformative justice and abolitionist practices for public safety at festivals. This work has been piloted for both 2018 & 2022 Coachella & Stagecoach festivals and was a huge success.
In continuing this work in 2022, SHIFT imagines a world where prevention, care, and wellness services are an integral part of safety in all public spaces, a world where this work is equitable, culturally competent, and trauma-informed. SHIFT aims to create a practical model of community care in action within festivals and invites all institutions to courageously choose to invest in these comprehensive services. This work is urgent and the possibilities are abundant when we choose community.
